My first real French meal this trip

Le Pontoise - a small restaurant near Notre Dame. I went with my dear friend Lisa Ross (amazing photographer and my friend since Sarah Lawrence) and her beautiful mother. I stupidly forgot to take pictures of the meal with my new iPhone - sorry. Words will have to suffice:
A lovely Kir: white wine with creme de cassis; a basket of the freshest and most delicious bread served with our appetizers - mine of foie gras with figs, a sundried tomato, red peppercorns, sea salt and divine vinegar; followed by pig's cheeks (a delicate but rich meat) in a black iron pot of the richest stew of potatoes, carrots and topped with slim green beans; we all shared one perfect piece of tarte tatin (a caramelized apple cake) topped with vanilla ice cream = heavenly. Took a taxi home with the glowing Notre Dame and twinkling eiffel tower out our windows........Reading and LOVING Alice Kaplan's Dreaming in French - a book about Jacqueline Kennedy Onnassis, Susan Sontag and Angela Davis' time in paris as young women.

  1. I'll skip the foie but I can't wait to read that book. She got a review in the New Yorker last month, ooh la la.
